Thank you for your comments. Finding a safe horse, suitable for the level of the rider is very important. The pros recommend buying a horse with a 30 day return policy so that there is time for horse and rider to get to know each other and see if the relationship will work out. Taking a more experienced rider or trainer along to look at the horse when considering purchase is also helpful. And lastly check out the people you are buying from. Ask around and see if they have a good reputation and are known for their honesty. Sadly, what you experienced is a common problem. That is why we at Horse Digest put so much emphasis on helping to train and educate the “riders/buyers” as well as the horses.
